I am on a quest to not only simplify my home and my schedule, but I also want to simplify my mind because sometimes it gets a little cluttered... actually, it can get VERY cluttered.

My mind (and I'm sure many of you can relate) sometimes gets over-cluttered with worry.

On today's episode we look at how we can relieve ourselves from unnecessary tension caused by worry.

Since I've had a couple listeners recently send me questions about organizing their closets, I thought now would be a good time for a little review. This Encore Episode was from a show that we released on Life Made Simple back in October of 2016.

Show Notes:

How do you simplify your life? Well, you first figure out what really matters to you, focus only on those things, and then somehow let go of the rest, which is not always easy.

On today's episode of Life Made Simple we dive deep into the psychology behind letting go of things that we don't need, don't use, and don't love yet somehow have a hard time parting with.

I share with you a specific example from my own life when I asked myself a series of important questions that helped me let go of something that I thought was special, but really wasn't.

It's New Years in a couple weeks, which for most people means a time to reassess goals and aspirations... and for some of us new resolutions. Right now is the PERFECT time to reassess your time to figure out how you are going to get it all done.

On today's episode we do a quick review of the Perfect Day Itinerary, an exercise that's designed to help you focus on your goals and priorities while strategically managing your time in order to accomplish them. Because like the famous Stephen Covey said, "The Key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."

As we head into the new year and wave goodbye to 2017 it is only natural to dive head first into plans for the fresh new year. Well, at least for me. I am for sure a future-oriented thinker, so I LOVE new years... I love planning, goal-setting, and dreaming big.

But, I need to be careful. Sometimes, before charging forward, I need to ease my foot on the brake and give myself the space and freedom to reflect on this past year of my life.

For today's episode, I share with you an article that's geared towards aspiring leaders, but I believe that we all can benefit from it. It's called 12 Questions to Reflect Upon As You Start A New Year. It's written by Eileen Chadnick who is a Leadership and Work-Life Coach with Big Cheese Coaching and Author of the book called Ease - Manage Overwhelm in Times of "Crazy Busy".

We are now at the tail end of 2017. We have just a few more weeks until the New Year and I am sure, if you're like me, this is when you begin to look back at how things have gone in your life these past twelve months, you think about what your life is like right now, and you begin consider your hopes and goals for next year.

For this upcoming Monday's full length episode I'm going to give you some very specific questions to ask yourself during this season of reflection. But first, before that, for today's special encore episode, we're going to go back in time and replay one of our episodes from around this time last year. It is my reminder to you  that no matter where you are in life, you need to be kind to yourself.

This encore is from episode #40 Always Moving Onward & Upward... enjoy!

One of the most important things in my life that I want to focus on, are my loved ones. My family, my friends, and even other random people in my life like my son's teacher, neighbors, clients, and so on.

People are important to me.

Recently I stumbled across an article online that really challenged me when it comes to my interactions with people in my day to day life. For today's episode, I read that article to you.

It's on a website called ThriveGlobal.com and it's written by Katherine Schafler, a NYC-based psychotherapist, writer and speaker. It's called How to Change Your Life in One Second Flat: The 4 Critical Questions We're All Unconsciously Asking Each Other Near Constantly.

For today's quick and brief 3 minute Thursday episode I'd like to share with you a little poem I found about organizing. I did not write this, I actually found it on a website called ClutterCleaners.com and it looks like it was written by someone at Poet Endeavors.

I thought it was kinda cute and light hearted and I'm sure many of you professional home organizers out there who are regular listeners of the show will for sure appreciate it!

Let's jump back to an episode that we released way back in September of 2016. It was called "Do You Have a 'Just In Case' Mentality?"

In that episode I talk about one very specific reason that we hang on to certain items that we don't love, don't need, or don't see as sentimental. It's a very common factor that I'm sure all of us can relate to. It's called the "just in case" mentality.

I don't know about you, but I am trying to simplify my home, not clutter it up. And when it comes to birthdays and Christmas, I for sure do not want to clutter up the homes of the people that I love.

Gift giving is hard. It just is. Especially when I feel like everyone I know already has everything they could possibly want or need.

On today's episode I share with you some of my favorite gift ideas for the people on your list that take up little or no space at all.

The article is about one particular happiness habit... it's called "The 5 Minute Fix".

Then, afterwards, I share with you Shawn's five tips to get some peace and quite.

Happy Thanksgiving! This time of year we are all taught to count our blessings. Say thank you. Consider yourself lucky. Be grateful for all that you have.

These are things that many of us were taught when we were younger so that we would grow into decent human beings with good manners. But it turns out, there's a lot more to this whole notion of gratitude.

In today's episode I share with you some advice from a professor of pyschology on how to tap into the benefits of gratitude.

For my crazy busy family, life never seems to stop. And with Thanksgiving coming up and then Christmas just around the corner it has started to get even busier. And when life gets busy, my to-do list gets longer.

It seems every other minute something new that I need to do, or buy, or remember, jumps out at me. My brain gets flooded! The question is, when life gets crazy and your to-do's begin to multiply, how do you keep track of it all?

The answer may seem simple - and maybe a little obvious - but if you think of something you don't want to forget, you have to write it down.

Today we are going to continue with a topic that we started last week: how to declutter your mind. Because, if you're anything like me, sometimes the thoughts that spin around in your mind can feel chaotic and overwhelming. Is it possible to simplify our brain? Yes. Yes it is.

If you didn't get a chance to listen to last Monday's episode, go back and push play on Episode #111 How To Declutter Your Mind (Part 2).

Today I go over a handful of the different types of negative thinking patterns that we all tend to struggle with. I also give you some very specific ways as to how to challange and replace those negative thoughts.

I am a recovering pack rat. And to this day I am still extremely sentimental. For me, there is a huge connection between memories and things.

But over the years I've had to dig deep and somehow change my relationship with stuff. I've needed to figure out how to hang on to memories without needing to hang on to the things that are associated with them. Because while I want my life to be filled with moments and memories, I don't need it to be filled with stuff.

On today's quick and brief "3 Minute Thursday" episode of Life Made Simple, I share with you a story about how I recently let go of something sentimental for the sake of simplicity. I'll admit, it was hard, but necessary.

You know I love talking about how to simplify and declutter your house. As a professional home organizer, I've dedicated my life to helping people let go of all the clutter laying around their homes... all the stuff that eventually sucks up their space, their time, and energy.  I want to help people exchange all the unnecessary physical clutter in their homes for serenity, peace and happiness.

But at times we need to consider a different kind of clutter. I'm talking about the non-physical type of clutter that we all have in our lives. Today, I talk about mind clutter. The clutter that we have complicating our brain. More specifically, the negative thoughts that fill up our minds and fog our vision.

Unfortunately, for many of us, a cluttered mind can be a lot worse than a cluttered home or workspace. When your mind is cluttered with negative thoughts, you can easily feel stressed, anxious, restless, unfocused, and overwhelmed.

And we all know that the process of decluttering our homes isn't always easy. But decluttering your mind, can seem almost impossible!  It’s not as if thoughts are just laying around, waiting for you to tidy them up. It's not like you can just simply pick through them all, find the good ones that should be kept and then toss the unwanted ones in the donation box. I wish it were that easy. But the mind isn’t like an inbox that you can just sit down and sort through. It's more complicated than that. Or is it?

Negative thinking patterns are something that I've struggled with many times throughout my life. Through my own experiences and with all the research that I've done over the years, I now want to share with you what I've learned when it comes to simplifying a mind that can easily be cluttered with negative thoughts.

For many of us, daily life – as I’m sure you’ve noticed – has become an endless, exhausting to-do list.

For me, when I see open time in my calendar it means opportunity... opportunity to do more. But, if I'm not careful, openness that turns into opportunity results in overwhelm.

On today's episode we look at the importance of scheduling unscheduled time.

Today we look at a popular notion that I've seen many times in the field of home organizing and simple living. It's the idea that frugality and minimalism go hand in hand... I have to say I've seen these two terms tossed around together quite often.

The truth is, while there can be a little overlap and these two terms can in some ways be combined, their meanings are very different. On our quest to find simplicity in our lives, it is so important to understand the difference between these two concepts and how they can actually at times either complement each other or clash.

For today's quick and brief episode we're going to talk about healthy eating. More specifically, I'm going to give you some really easy, real food meal ideas.

Yes, real food. It’s a term that’s tossed around a lot these days. But what exactly is “real food”? While there is no official definition for the term, after looking around on a few real food blogs I found that there is a general consensus for what it means.

Real food is wholesome and nourishing. It is simple, whole food. Pure and unadulterated, sustained yet unchanged by man.

It's food made simple. It's clean eating.

Sometime in the next few months we'll plan on having a longer full length episode on the topic of real food. But for now, on today's episode I give you some quick and easy meal ideas that involve real food in the microwave... because when it comes to cooking, how much quicker can you get?!?
